If you want to do an easy search that will give lots of results, please use the simple search

To search for publications, type search terms in one or more boxes.

The Advanced search searches for the terms you enter as a phrase, unless you combine the terms with & (AND), / (OR) or ! (NOT). Include a space before and after the symbol.

AND: the results must contain all the terms you enter
OR: the results must contain one or more of the terms you enter, but not necessarily all of them.
NOT: the results may not contain the terms you enter.

If there are no connectors, the system will search for the phrase you entered, so entering e.g. motor insurance will only find documents with ‘motor insurance’ as a phrase in it, and not documents where ‘motor’ is used without immediately being followed by ‘insurance’.

You can select from the options next to the boxes to combine search fields in the same way.

To find variations based on word stems, type an asterisk at the end of one or more words. E.g.: ‘model*’ will find model, models, modelling, etcetera.

The ‘Free text search’ will search all fields in the catalogue record, while the other search options search specifically for e.g. the author.

The ‘list options’ buttons allow you to browse possible terms to use.

Please note that BAJ, JIA and TFA are on the system as such, and not under their full title.

Please use the Search help for more advice on how to search, or use the simple search screen if you prefer.
